Division: Accounting & Finance
Role/Assignment: Accounts Manager / Senior Bookkeeper
The Challenge
A growing engineering company had recently appointed a new Managing Director and was preparing for its next stage of development.
When a key member of the finance team resigned with only one month’s notice, the business needed to find a replacement quickly to provide continuity and allow time for a handover.
Our Approach
Bond Williams sourced immediately available candidates at different levels of experience.
One candidate stood out because of their stronger skills and experience, although their salary expectations exceeded the client’s original budget.
The client’s initial concern was both the higher salary and elements of the candidate’s career history.
We discussed each career move with the client, explained the context and encouraged them to meet the candidate rather than dismissing them based solely on the CV.
We also explained the additional value the more experienced candidate could provide to the wider finance function.
The Outcome
After meeting the candidate, the client recognised the benefit of making the more senior appointment.
The candidate was offered the role and started within a few days.
The appointment gave the Finance Director confidence that the day-to-day finance operation could be managed effectively, allowing them to focus more time on strategic responsibilities.
Key Results
✔ Candidate secured and started within days
✔ Client considered talent above its original salary budget
✔ Concerns around the candidate’s career history were addressed before interview
✔ More experienced finance capability brought into the business
✔ Allowed the Finance Director to focus more heavily on strategic responsibilities
