We spoke to our team about their Top Tips for recruiting in 2023. And with over 250 years’ experience between them, there are some great tips to help you in your recruitment endeavours for the year ahead, we have never tried to reinvent the wheel and recruitment isn’t rocket science but getting the basics right and doing them well will make all the difference. You’d be surprised.
- Is your benefits package fit for purpose? Review it, is it competitive? 20 days holiday, NEST pension and no hybrid working just doesn’t cut it anymore!! You need to think of lots of ways to entice candidates if you cannot improve on flexibility or the salary on offer.
- There is still a lot of competition for talent, you’ll still need to move quickly if you find the right person.
- A long interview process could lose you good candidates, look at how your time to hire process could be improved by reducing the steps or condensing the interview process.
- Ensure you have thought about the type of person and what skills you want before you start recruiting. The better the brief the more relevant the applications will be ensuring time is spent seeing the best candidates.
- Look at ways you can promote and if need be, improve your employer branding, if you’re not out there, they won’t know about you. Many job seekers won’t apply or look at roles with a company that has a bad reputation, regardless of the salary on offer.
- Ensure your hiring process reflects your company values and culture. Don’t impact the bottom line and get a bad reputation because your recruitment practice is poor.
- Give feedback to candidates, if someone has taken the time to attend an interview it’s only fair you give them some structured feedback. Also, you won’t damage your brand with bad recruitment practices.
- Make sure the best people are interviewing for you at your company, if they aren’t good at interviewing get someone else to do them or invest in some training. You’ll lose good people.
- You need to sell your company too; interviews are two ways, make sure you let the candidates know why they should work for you and what you have to offer. It’s a candidate driven market. If multiple offers are on the table, what makes you stand out from your competitors? It’s not always about the money!
