How has the market been for your division over the past year?

We are in a fortunate position to work in the thriving scientific community here in Oxford and have helped our clients through rapid growth phases, particularly those serving the life sciences industries.

What trends do you see developing in your marketplace? What future roles do you think will be more in demand?

Focusing on science, anything within automation, Data Science and Bioinformatics are things that are definitely in the ascendency.

What are the biggest issues for candidates in your marketplace?

Most good candidates are fielding multiple offers during their job searches and while this is generally a good thing it can also bring a lot of pressure. It is important to make the right decision, for example you might be considering joining a risky but exciting start up versus a more established corporate company where there could be more stability but less upward mobility.

What are the biggest issues for clients in your marketplace?

Being agile enough to move quickly on top talent, a high quality candidate can enter the market on Monday and have two job offers by Friday, so companies need their end to end recruitment process to be extremely fluid.

What advice would you give to candidates?

Pursue as many opportunities as you are able to without compromising on the effort levels you can give for interviews etc. but don’t just take the first offer you get. Good organisations will always give you some time to deliberate which can give you the opportunity to chase up any outstanding interview feedback from other positions you might also be interested in.

Move quickly on good candidates to avoid disappointment!

How long have you been in recruitment and why have you stayed in it for so long?

Over 10 years and counting, I have been lucky enough to work with some very supportive people over the years and been offered opportunities to learn, develop and progress in the recruitment industry so that has definitely kept my interest to date.

What do you like about working at Bond Williams?

Being given all the tools I need to be successful and being supported every step of the way and the real family/community spirit I share with the wider team as well as the guys in my office.

What do you do to relax?

Spend time with my 5 year old Son and go and watch a bit of football when I can.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

Although I ended up in recruitment, when I was at University I wanted to be a Teacher, but I guess both jobs involve talking a lot which was something I was always getting told off at school for doing!
