Our client is a well funded and fast growing proteomics start up who are welcoming an exceptional Protein Biochemist to join their ambitious and energetic team. You will be working on technology that doesn’t exist anywhere else and joining at a key inflection point as the business moves through development to global product launch.
The Senior Scientist, Protein Biochemistry will take on a hands-on, lab-based role leading on developing the protocols, reagents, kits, and workflows that unlock new applications and demonstrate the real value of their platform.
You’ll combine deep expertise in protein biochemistry and biophysics with commercial awareness, working across scientific and commercial teams to translate cutting-edge platform capabilities into real customer solutions. You’ll own projects end-to-end, mentor junior scientists, and contribute directly to the company’s intellectual property and scientific publications.

The Senior Scientist, Protein Biochemistry should have:
Essential
- Strong theoretical and practical expertise in molecular and cellular biochemistry, with demonstrable experience in biophysics, protein biochemistry, structural biology and enzymology.
- Working knowledge of a broad range of protein extraction, conjugation and manipulation methods, including post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation.
- Hands-on experience with FPLC-based protein purification (e.g. ÄKTA Pure systems).
- Highly self-motivated and independent, while also a genuine team player.
- Adaptable and intellectually curious – able to integrate knowledge across multiple scientific domains and get up to speed quickly in new areas.
Desirable
- Experience in enzymology, including kinetic characterisation and engineering of enzyme activity or stability.
- Hands-on experience with bioconjugation chemistries, including site-specific protein labelling and crosslinking strategies.
- Experience with phage display for protein or peptide selection and engineering.
- Experience with directed evolution approaches for improving protein function, specificity or stability.
- Experience in single-molecule biophysics, such as fluorescence imaging or nanopore electrophysiology.
