We spoke to our team about their Top Tips for finding a role in 2023. And with over 250 years’ experience between them, there are some great tips to help you in your job search for the year ahead, we have never tried to reinvent the wheel, recruitment and job searching isn’t rocket science but getting the basics right and doing them well will make all the difference. You’d be surprised.
- Take the time to make your CV and covering letter specific to each application. Quality is better than quantity.
- Read the job description and ensure you have highlighted what skills you have that are relevant for the role if it’s not on your CV they won’t know. However, DO NOT put them on there if you do not have the skills!!
- Ensure you detail your company’s industry/size (turnover, employees) and make sure you note which systems you have used.
- Make sure you highlight your successes clearly on your CV. Key areas are where you have helped to save money, make money, improved processes, or training.
- Be sure to explain gaps in your CV.
- Make sure your CV is relevant for the roles you are applying for.
- Audit your social media accounts and make sure they have nothing on them that may put a potential employer off as they can be checked before interview or offer stage.
- Think about the reason you are looking to leave your current role and what you want to get out of the next role. What are your motivators.
- Research salaries and be realistic in your requirements.
- Don’t ghost employers or recruiters, always return calls, or drop them an email, even if you have found a role, let them know and save everyone time. You never know you may need them again and they won’t make you a priority.
- You could find yourself in a situation where you receive multiple job offers, make sure you do some background research on the companies to weigh up the offers on the table and make the right decision. Utilise tools like Glassdoor and even Google Reviews for further insights.
