Overview of Role
We are looking for an energetic, hands on Commercial Manager to be integral to the expected growth of the Group.

As Commercial Manager the successful candidate will be one of the principle contacts for customers and responsible for existing and new commercial relationships. You will also support the CEO and sales teams to develop global sales in order to achieve short, medium and long-term sales targets and growth.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the exceptional interpersonal skills required to deal with customers from different backgrounds, cultures and seniority. We are looking for an approachable individual who can demonstrate an ability to work independently. You should have excellent written and verbal communications skills, along with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

As Commercial Manager you will also be responsible for the pricing, development, implementation and on-going management of all commercial operations to deliver sales and cost targets set out in business plans, strategic plan and annual budgets. In addition to the external facing duties you will also lead on internal governance within the organisation and be the custodian/leader on Group business policies.

Main Responsibilities of the Commercial Manager:

  • Influencing new business methods, processes and measures to optimise the company and customer positions
  • Custodian of Group business processes
  • Acting as primary customer interface for proposals and contractual matters
  • Pricing
  • Providing guidance to the business on commercial issues and internal governance
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and devising appropriate mitigations
  • Leading and supporting the preparation of proposals, contract changes and claims
  • Leading final stages of contracts
  • Co-ordinating the implementation of actions on commercial / contract issues
  • Proactively engaging other functions to enhance the commercial solution
  • Working with procurement on supply chain solutions and contractual arrangements
  • Maintaining customer knowledge and applying market intelligence to opportunities
  • Management of distributor relationships
  • Controlling and issuing the customer and distributor price lists
  • Adhoc tasks

Commercial Manager Requirements:

  • Strong ability to operate as part of a team
  • The ability to translate a big picture into a detailed operational project plan capable of making the opportunity a reality
  • A can do attitude and hands on approach
  • Knowledge of legal issues, profitability requirements, contract structure, terms and conditions, sub-contract considerations, funding and payment plans
  • Ability to formulate the full range of agreements with customers and partners (including universities), including: teaming agreements, confidentiality agreements, licences of intellectual property to/from third parties; and responsible for drafting contracts / agreements
  • Astute analytical ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities, and ability to devise a flexible range of mitigations
  • Maturity and gravitas to work with senior levels of customers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience of delivering the commercial aspects to meet Group sales targets
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate and persuade
  • Demonstrable experience in customer negotiations and development of customer relationships
  • Biotech/pharma experience whether by education or from business experience

This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who has the capability to be versatile whilst the humility to get knee-deep in all aspects of the financial management of the business, and having had a steady linear career, will relish the challenges and drivers of this evolving business.
