Software Engineer (Backend Developer) – £Competitive – Oxford

A Software Engineer (Backend Developer) is required by an innovative, intellectually stimulating and fast-paced Biotechnology company in Oxford.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Strengthening AWS compute infrastructure that routinely runs large-scale algorithms.
  • Implementing workflow solution to author, schedule and monitor tasks, workers and dependencies.
  • Generating high-quality, production-ready code.
  • Manage your workload to lead and innovate great ideas.
  • Work with your colleagues to define features and devise technical plans to implement them at scale.

What you will need:

  • Highly motivated with a track record of success.
  • 2+ years software engineering experience.
  • Mastery of a Python programming language.
  • Proven experience running large-scale calculations or data processing pipelines using a HPC technology (Bonus AWS)
  • Experience with a modern workflow technology such as Airflow, AWS Batch, Luigi or more lightweight solutions like Bonobo.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Bonus Docker).
  • DevOps experience e.g. Chef, Puppet, Ansible, CloudFormation (Bonus: Ansible).
  • BSc degree in Computer Science, Software Development or relevant field.
  • Follow good development practices including writing tests, maintaining build systems and using version control (Bonus: Jenkins) within an Agile development environment.
  • Can plan your work and develop technical plans to clarify requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to facilitate discussion about design and technology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Strong team player with an inclusive mindset.
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience with CI/CD technologies (Bonus Jenkins).
