A Junior Software Developer is required to join the team of an innovative start-up AI company that span out of the University of Oxford.

Much of the software within the operational environment is web-based; currently hosted through Azure. While some of their applications are on cloud-based desktops, most of the interaction with their systems will be through web-based applications and API integrations.
They use a privacy-by-design approach for the development of new systems, as they operate in the healthcare sector, so security remains a primary requirement. Developers need to have a keen awareness and interest in secure development practices.

Your unique combination of experience and qualifications will be used to:

  • Develop web-based administration software that will be used to implement back-end processes
  • Manage the deployment of new increments of custom software and configuration
  • Monitor the performance of software deployed into the operations environment
  • Work closely with product management to ensure the needs of our various users are addressed
  • Work closely with the deployment personnel to ensure smooth on-boarding of new customers into the operations environment

Essential Requirements

  • HTML5, CSS, Javascript
  • Configuration management systems (git)
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure basics
  • Experience of lean software development methodologies, particularly Continuous Delivery
  • Good standard of written English to define requirements and communicate with users

Desirable qualities

  • ES6 and/or Typescript knowledge a definite bonus
  • “Serverless” experience (AWS Lambda, Azure functions, or similar)
  • Responsive page design experience, or knowledge of relevant CSS frameworks
  • Secure development knowledge, esp. OWASP
  • Experience of working within a regulated sector
  • Use and development of REST/HATEOAS (or similar) APIs
  • Any experience of infrastructure automation

You might be early in your development career, but you will be able to articulate your understanding of good engineering practices in a clear way. You also may not have any previous healthcare experience but will be excited working in a start-up developing cutting-edge technology and eager to expand your range of skills.
