Cheminformatics Research Engineer – Salary Excellent – Oxford
A Research Engineer (Cheminformatics) is required by an innovative, intellectually stimulating and fast-paced Biotechnology company in Oxford.
Develop cheminformatics algorithms and implement research prototypes to test their impact on drug discovery programs.
Work with drug designers to translate feedback back into algorithmic improvements.
Work with software engineers to implement these algorithms into our technology platform.
Knowledge in medicinal chemistry to understand drug design and develop cheminformatics algorithms. Degree in chemistry, cheminformatics, a related field or a degree in computer science with the chemistry knowledge stemming from extensive professional experience.
Proven track record of developing and implementing cheminformatics algorithms.
Advanced programming skills to implement data structures and complex algorithms using cheminformatics toolkits.
Software development experience to efficiently design and implement modules, packages, applications and APIs.
Most of the software is written in Python, proficiency is therefore essential.
Algorithms are part of technology platform: eagerness to write high-quality software according to good software development practices is therefore a must. This includes writing and maintaining unit tests, creating high-quality documentation.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills: you will need to be able to communicate effectively with team members as well as external audiences having diverse professional backgrounds.
Strong team player with an inclusive mindset that is willing to listen and learn from others.
Passionate about the idea of discovering novel therapeutics by application of technology.
Experience working with relational databases.
Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as Amazon Web Services.
Experience with containerization and container orchestration.
Experience with machine learning and major machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, especially in the context of cheminformatics.
Experience with advanced data analysis techniques such as active learning and multi-parameter optimisation.
Open source contributions or publications in academic journals demonstrating experience in scientific software development.
