Operation Risk Officer – Wimborne – £Competitive

An operation risk officer is required for our client based in Wimborne on a temporary basis whilst there is an ongoing project. The main aspect of the role is to provide 2nd line defence and supporting the embedding of the operational and conduct risk management and operational resilience frameworks to ensure they are robust and remain up to date. To work with the business to identify, quantify and assess the risks.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the embedding of a robust risk management framework, including risk management and policy reviews, to be monitored on a regular basis.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge from a risk management point of view.
  • Review methodology used for risk assessment and control and make suggestions for change as required.
  • Assist the business in identifying risks by using appropriate methods such as workshops and brainstorming sessions.
  • Assist the business so that risks and controls are accurately evaluated and recorded in the risk database.
  • Maintain and enhance loss / risk event recording and reporting and, where possible, make recommendations to avoid further losses.
  • Ensure that the business understands its appetite for risk enabling decisions to be made accordingly. Develop Key Risk Indicators linked to this in order to provide an early warning of potential risks and an ability to measure the companies risk profile.
  • Support the creation of accurate and meaningful report to committees (and managers) as required. Ensuring the analysis can be used to assist in the making of business decisions and the challenging of the Society’s systems and controls in respect of risk management.
  • Input to the Society’s projects from a risk management perspective as required.
  • Provide oversight and challenge in relation to business continuity and operational resilience planning.
  • To provide oversight and challenge in relation to processes and arrangements for outsourcing and third-party risk management.

Key Skills:

  • Experience and track record in 2nd line of defence operational and conduct risk management, preferably in financial services.
  • Knowledge and experience of embedding risk management frameworks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of operational and conduct risk appetites and developing appropriate metrics for their measurement.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • IT Literate
