RISING STAR AWARD 2016   An HR Professional with under 3 years’ operational HR experience and huge potential for the future.

Winner: Louise Russell

Louise’s strengths lie in her enthusiasm to learn, develop and genuinely make Sandy Balls a better place to work. With the role of providing support to the HR Manager to meet the fluctuating needs of the business and to ensure the department runs smoothly, Louise follows the processes in place, always seeking improvements with a great attitude and determination. The employee engagement that has been achieved over the last 12 months is accentuated by Louise’s hard work putting on team events to bring the different divisions of the businesses together, this has continued into 2016. Louise is instrumental to the organisation and to the delivery of the team events. As a new recruit to HR, we believe Louise has a very bright future in HR.

The motor trade is one of the fastest changing sectors, driven by Information Technology and a shift in consumer behaviour. Sandown has gone through an immense programme of change, merging into a company of 400+ employees. In order to stay competitive Sandown need to continually evolve and the HR team have been pivotal in helping to develop a new culture, supporting the managers and employees through the change process and formulating a robust HR strategy that ensures the infrastructure for future growth.

Saskia has established a vision, mission and values for the management of people resulting in positive cultural change. From a modest starting position of herself and one member of staff, Saskia has built a high-performing and well-rounded HR Business Partner team which is meeting the strategic HR needs of every service area across the Council. A very recent achievement which can be credited to Saskia’s direction is the Local Government Association’s Excellence award for Equality, which is awarded only to councils who demonstrate that equality and fairness is embedded into the heart of everything they do. Through her own behaviour and role-modelling she is ensuring that managers across the Council recognise that valuing and supporting your staff is the most effective way to build sustainable council services for the community of Bournemouth.
