Many firms overlook the importance of staff incentives for fear of such schemes costing too much money. But, as Mandy Fitzmaurice from Purple HR pointed out at our latest Bond Williams free HR seminar, you can improve morale in the workforce without spending a penny, with a little imagination.

It’s a sad fact that less than one in three employees say they feel ‘engaged’. But it’s essential for firms to look after those on the ‘frontline’. Some firms are very good at engaging their employees — Bournemouth Borough Council and Merlin Entertainments, to name just two, have higher than average engagement ratings. Merlin, who were crowned Bond Williams & Acas Dorset & Hampshire HR Team of the Year earlier this month, report a whopping 97% response rate to staff surveys.

Mandy says: “It’s important that you not only talk to your staff, through surveys and regular meetings, but also that you LISTEN to their concerns and follow through with your promises. Don’t assume you know what’s going on on the shopfloor. Take the time to ask.

“It’s not just about cash and wages — it’s about quality of life, beyond work.”

Bond Williams Professional Recruitment work together as a team to help Bournemouth businesses find the right candidates — and their clients find the very best staff, of course. Our employee engagement schemes include charity days, a day off on your birthday, celebrating achievements… simple things, easy to implement, setting an example to their clients in the process. Mandy, from Purple, is an HR specialist with more than 20 years experience. She works with firms of all sizes to help them outsource and/or improve human resources. Remember, happy staff means more happy customers which means the bottom line improves anyway — it’s worth taking the time and effort to invest in employee engagement.

·         The next free HR seminar will be held at AFC Bournemouth on March 3, 2015.
