In our staff spotlight series, we ask our team members a number of questions about their career and personal interests so you can get to know them a little better. Next up is our Director, Rob Bond.
Give a potted history of your career to date.
First job was as an estate agent selling prestige/high-end homes in Devon. I then sold wine and beer to Australians in Sydney, medical equipment in the UK and went into IT Recruitment in 2000.
Why did you get into recruitment?
Always found myself getting bored after 3-4 years of selling a particular product to end customers. I wanted to get into the B2B market as I felt that would be more interesting in the longer term. With recruitment, no two days are the same and the last 20 years have certainly been interesting, lots of fun and very rewarding!
What qualifications do you have?
I am CertRP accredited with the REC and also a Fellow of the REC (FIRP).
What do you think makes a great recruitment consultant?
Good listening skills, tenacity, the ability and desire to work hard in partnership with your customers and candidates.
Your biggest achievement at Bond Williams?
Creating a true meritocracy where success and hard work are well-rewarded, enabling people in the business to enjoy their work and have a great quality of life outside of work also.
Your biggest achievement in life?
Building our family “forever” home whilst still in my 30’s prior to working at Bond Williams.
Always wanted to travel to…?
Australia – I lived there for a year in 1990 and recently went back with the family for a second trip 25 years on. Such an incredible multicultural country with a diverse landscape/scenery, lively cities with an outdoor, family focused, healthy lifestyle.
Always wanted to learn how to…?
Scuba Dive – became a Certified PADI Rescue Diver in 2006. I would also like to get my golf handicap down to single figures when I have more time to play. I struggle to play more than 5 or 6 times a year nowadays!
If I weren’t a recruitment consultant, I would be…?
Probably a small-time property developer!?
People would be surprised to know this about me?
I have competed for England in two sports – Athletics England U21’s (Decathlon) when I was a youngster (Daley Thompson was my hero) and more recently I played for Great Britain O45s in Padel Tennis!
Motto in life or something you strongly believe in?
The harder and smarter you work, the luckier you will get!
Make plans. Set yourself regular realistic goals and give them a target date, but be sure to make them achievable.
