Join our HR group on LinkedIn and tell us – have you ever caught a candidate out who was lying? Who is checking on your candidates?

As news breaks that almost half of job-hunters in the South West admit to lying on their CV to get ahead of the competition, it only shows once again how important it is to use a recruitment agency when you are advertising the top jobs.

A poll by job board CV-Library found that here in the South West, we are less competitive than other regions but candidates still feel like they have to lie to get noticed – and 45.8% admitted to doing so.

CV-Library managing director Lee Biggins said: “Although the figures show high volumes of candidates across the UK relate CV lies to job competition, it’s particularly interesting to see these levels increase in areas where the candidate to job ratio is higher. Recruiters in these regions should make extra efforts to be on their guard and seek advice to help overcome these issues.”

The study surveyed more than 2,000 job hunters. Even temps have been caught out. A study by First Advantage looked at checks carried out in EMEA between January 2011 and June 2014 and found almost one in four had inaccuracies, gaps or downright lies…
